Many pet owners may be concerned that their birds may feel lonely or bored inside their cages. Livestock manager, Tasha, gives advice on picking out fun toys and activities for pet budgies.
So, how to choose your budgie toys. If they look exciting to you, it's most likely exciting for the budgie. Budgies like to climb, so make sure in the side of the cage, you do have horizontal bars so they can climb.
Another thing is a must is a ladder; they love to climb. You can give them different activities to do, maybe put some treats at the top because that'll encourage them to climb up the ladder. Different toys you can get, you got little balls here with bells in, you got bells at the bottom.
They love things like this, they love to play around. Obviously, these are hanging toys so you encourage them to move inside the cage. We don't advise to have one budgie, but if you do, you want to make sure to keep the cage as exciting as possible, obviously to prevent boredom.
Something great is a mirror. A budgie mirror is good for the budgie as well. It makes them feel like there's another budgie inside the cage.
It prevents depression from being by itself. Wood is another great budgie toy. It encourages them to chew, to keep that beak nice and trim.
If you do go to the park and see some woods, make sure you do heat treat it first. This is all made for the birds, this has all been heat treated, it stops the wood from rotting, it also keeps it free from pesticides. So make sure if you want to make your own wooden budgie toys, make sure you heat treat them first.
There are all different colors on here as well, these are all fruit flavors here, so it does encourage them to play with their toys. Obviously, a bit more natural as well. Different types of woods, we got different types of wicker here.
They can munch on it, they absolutely love this, and they can climb on top of it, you'll see them swinging. Budgie buddies, one of everyone's favorites. This will sit inside the perch, it's battery operated, and it's a talking budgie.
It will make your budgie feel like he's got another friend in the cage, obviously to stop him from being depressed. It's good to have a swing inside the cage. It helps to make movement for the birds, plus they love to be high up inside the cage.
A good thing you can put onto the perch is sandpaper, so when they hold on to the perch, it trims their nails as well. It obviously prevents you from having to cut the nails down. If you do have to cut the nails down, do not try and attempt this yourself if you do not know what you're doing.
You could cut the nerve, and it can harm the bird, so do make sure you do consult an expert like a vet or someone from your local pet store. So, that's how to choose your budgie toys. Good luck with your feathered friends.
